A Coaching Approach to Pain Management and Recovery.
Peak Health Coaching offers a course in a coaching approach to pain management and recovery for individuals and multi-professional teams working in health, social and community care.

Tailored Health Coaching- applied to Chronic Pain
At Peak Health Coaching we first learnt to use health coaching in our roles as GPs with special interest in pain management. We have over 10 years of collective experience working in the pain clinic, and much more supporting people living with pain, in primary care alongside health coaches. We learnt first-hand how important coaching approaches are to supporting people self-manage well, whilst living with chronic pain. With new pain science, we now know that recovery is possible. This course brings all that experience to focus on how prescribing clinicians, health coaches and the wider practice team can work in partnership with people living with pain to achieve great outcomes.

Recent study evidence suggests that our training has been associated with:
-
Reduced prescribing of opiates and gabapentinoids
-
Increase in clinician confidence in skills to enable self-management
-
Supporting behavioural change
-
Supporting self-care
-
Managing difficult consultations
Objectives of the Programme and what to expect
Participants in this programme will learn how to apply a new approach to chronic pain management as a team or know how you can play your vital part. We now offer 3 x 1/2 day modules which can be booked separately, depending on what you most need for your role. The first half-day module is where everyone should start, whatever your main role. This gives an introduction to the exciting new pain science that everyone should know and be able to share with the people they support. This maybe enough for some, but we suspect many will want more!
Whether you choose module 2a or 2b will depend on your main role. Module 2a is designed for prescribers and health care professionals and module 2b for Health Coaches and other non-prescribing colleagues. This enables everyone to maximise their skill set and impact, working in a co-ordinated and collaborative way. Our experience shows this way of working is both effective and satisfying for staff and patients. Module 3 is for those who want to work with patients at a deeper level and introduces the concepts or Pain Reprocessing Therapy (PRT), an evidence based approach that supports recovery in chronic pain.
Together we can help transform a distressing and debilitating condition into a journey of hope and recovery.
A Coaching Approach to Pain Management Programme Overview
We recognise the value of training colleagues from diverse backgrounds together, as well as understanding the need to pay attention to each professional's specific learning needs. We have therefore developed a programme that does all of this. From experience and feedback, we draw on what is essential for everyone to know in the first half-day session and then follow this up with a second half-day session, which is more role specific. Our programme includes time between the sessions, for colleagues to practice their skills, in the real-world settings, of their current context.
