Health Coaching Supervisor Training

Why Train as a Health and Wellbeing Coach Supervisor?

Health and wellbeing coaching initiatives are growing at pace across all sectors of society and there is a pressing need to train more health coaching supervisors nationally, and internationally, to ensure colleagues working in this space are supported and safe to practice.

Our health and wellbeing supervisor training programme addresses this training gap. By successfully competing this programme you will be ready and confident to offer vital health and wellbeing coaching supervision to colleagues in the NHS, social and voluntary sectors as well as in workplaces or educational institutions. Achieving health and wellbeing coaching supervisor status means you can supervise across a range of personalised care roles so you will be able to contribute the growth of colleagues using health coaching as part of a wider role, for example, as a social prescribing link worker in the NHS or as a colleague supporting workforce wellbeing.

Who can train as a Health Coach Supervisor?

This course is suitable for individuals who have already completed a PCI-accredited 4-day Health and Wellbeing Coaching programme such as our Intermediate Health Coaching Certificate  or equivalent. You should also have logged at least 200 hours of health and wellbeing coaching practice and have access to regular health coaching supervision from Peak Health Coaching or a suitably experienced and qualified provider. Supervisors are expected to be the equivalent of NHS England’s Tier 3 (or higher) to supervise their colleagues in the NHS and we believe this is a good minimum threshold standard for supervision beyond the health and social care sector, for example, in workplace health and wellbeing and independent coaching practice. Our Supervisor training programme will support you to achieve Tier 3 if you have not yet evidenced this standard.

How is the training structured?

Our Supervisor Training Programme is delivered in two core modules plus directed independent and peer-led learning.  Your learning journey will include 6 days of live (synchronous) online learning time (delivered over 10-12 weeks) as well as a combination of asynchronous tutor-directed peer learning, individual study and professional practice. There will be regular optional tutor-led portfolio development sessions to support your portfolio submission.

The course is dedicated to developing participants’ 1:1 and group supervision practice as well as their own coaching competencies.  Supervisors-in-training will also be encouraged to consider how they can nurture, support and assess the development of health and wellbeing coaching competencies in the coaches they supervise.

This course is currently offered as online only, but hybrid programmes will be available.

Getting started...

Once registered on the programme, you will have the opportunity of attending one of our monthly supervisor training induction sessions prior to the start of the live-learning programme. During the induction session you will find out more about the supervisor training programme and be able to start work straight away on this next step in your learning and development. The induction process offers an opportunity to take stock of your growth and development as a health coach to date and to reflect on what will enable you to make the most of this opportunity.  There will be some self-study and peer work activities to do to follow up and throughout the duration of the supervisor training programme. You will have the opportunity to develop a plan to begin building your supervisor portfolio and to clarify any questions you may have.

Participants will learn and develop:

  • Formative, restorative and normative aspects of the supervision process.

  • Reflective practice, drawing on models of reflection (e.g. Kolb's and Gibbs' cycles)

  • Their own and supervisee's coaching competencies in line with the HWBC framework.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of the Supervisor Training programme participants will have:

Ongoing Support (CPD) and Assessment

As you might expect, we do not want to just teach supervision skills; we want to ensure that you start your journey as a supervisor, being comfortable and confident in the role.  We have therefore developed a robust assessment process, and we will be alongside you every step of the way!  You will have access to up to 12-months of CPD support from the start of your supervisor training, to create a portfolio to evidence your growth as both a health and wellbeing practitioner and a coaching supervisor.

Once you have actively participated in all the taught elements of the programme, you will be invited to submit a portfolio on-line, to include evidence of your competencies and practices. You will be offered 1:1 supervision-style oral assessment to support your current and future development and evolution as a supervisor.

Senior Supervisor Training

After you have successfully completed you Supervisor Training Programme and assessment, you will be eligible to progress to Senior Supervisor Training.  This advanced level programme will enable you to develop the required skills and practice to supervise and assess coaches to Tier 4.
